William Sollecito
Dr. William Sollecito, DrPH; Vision and Leadership
William A. Sollecito, DrPH, is a Clinical Professor in the Public Health Leadership Program at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, and also serves as Certificate Administrator overseeing five graduate level certificate programs at UNC. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Baruch College (City University of New York), a Master of Science (Hyg.) degree from the Graduate School of Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh and a Doctor of Public Health degree in Biostatistics from the School of Public Health of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
After working for ten years in health services research, Dr. Sollecito worked in the contract clinical research industry at Quintiles Transnational Corporation from 1982-1996, where, as President of Quintiles Americas, he was responsible for all clinical operations in North and South America. He was appointed to the faculty of the UNC School of Public Health in 1997and was Director of the Public Health Leadership Program(PHLP) from 2000 through 2009. During his tenure, both Quintiles and PHLP underwent major changes and growth and Dr. Sollecito had direct responsibilities for achieving the vision of these organizations by leading initiatives, which included partnerships and alliances with other organizations as well as expansion and improvement to meet changing market demands. After starting as a new program in 1997, PHLP celebrated its 1000th graduate this past year; during 15 years at Quintiles, the North American organization grew from five founding members to over 1000 employees and was recognized as the leading contract research organization in America.
Dr. Sollecito currently teaches graduate courses, lectures and publishes on topics that span team and organizational leadership, project management and continuous quality improvement. He is the lead editor and co-editor, respectively, of two recently published books on continuous quality improvement in health care. He is also a member, since 2007, of the North Carolina Local Health Department Accreditation Board, whose primary goal is to foster continuous improvements in local health agencies across North Carolina; past board memberships include the Board of Directors of Quintiles Transnational Corporation and the Board of Water Partners International (now named Water.Org.), one of the most successful NGOs in the world today.
