Who typically attends your course?This IHCPT Program is designed for medical and allied health providers and other professionals seeking to partner with their clients to improve their health behaviors and outcomes. IHCPT program participants represent diverse educational and professional backgrounds. Many represent licensed medical and allied health fields such as medicine, nursing, physical therapy, health education, social work, exercise physiology, psychotherapy, or nutrition. Others represent a wide range of professional fields such as public health, massage therapy, acupuncture, yoga therapy, personal training, ministry, education, business entrepreneurs, healthcare marketing and consultants, and other fields. Participation in the Duke Health & Well-Being Coach Training is limited to accepted applicants. 2. What are the requirements for application and how long does it take to receive my application decision?Applicants must hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree. Exceptions may be considered for those with 3-5 years of professional experience in a medical or allied health field. Please allow approximately 3 weeks for your application to be reviewed. You will be notified of the acceptance decision via e-mail, at the email address you provided on your application. Accepted applicants will receive instructions on how to register. Registration is limited to 40 participants per course. Registrations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis and require payment in full. We will offer a waitlist for courses that fill to maximum capacity prior to the registration deadline. Acceptance into the program without registration and payment does not reserve your place in the course. 3. What course content will be covered?The Duke Health & Well-Being Coach Training includes two instructor-led in-person training modules as well as telephonic skills practice and online learning components (Web-Based Trainings and Video Demonstrations) to enhance the course curriculum. The Foundation Course provides extensive training in the core competencies required of Integrative Health Coaches. During this course, participants will:

What are the hours of the in-person training modules?The first day of the first in-person module of the Duke Health & Well-Being Coach Training begins with check-in and welcome at 8:30 AM and ends at 5:00 PM. The remaining training days are from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM with the exception of the last day of each module when we will conclude by 3:30 PM to allow for travel time. We ask that you arrive promptly as we will begin and end the training on time each day.
5. I am traveling to Duke IM from out of the area. What airport is closest? Do I need to rent a car? What are my options for lodging?The closest airport is the Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU). The airport is approximately 18 miles from our location. Course participants often forgo rental cars in lieu of the shuttle service that may be provided by their lodging choice. However, others find that a rental car provides more freedom for them to venture around the Durham/Raleigh/Chapel Hill area restaurants, shops and entertainment venues outside of the training hours. 6. Do you have an attendance policy? What if I cannot attend one of in-person training modules, or I have a conflict with a specific training date?Yes, there is an attendance policy. The Duke Health & Well-Being Coach Training modules are designed to be sequential and full attendance is required. For this reason, you should register for a course in which you can attend all module training dates. In order to receive a certificate of completion and earn continuing education credits, you are required to fully attend each day of the in-person training modules. You must also complete all of the telephonic practice sessions and online components of the training (Orientation, Web-Based Trainings, Demonstration Videos, Course Assessment, Course Evaluation, and Attestation). Duke Integrative Medicine reserves the right not to award a certificate of completion and continuing education credits if you do not complete all components of the training. 7. Are there any text books or other materials required for this course?During your participation in the first in-person training module you will be provided with printed course materials as well as online resources which you can download. There are no additional required textbooks.
8. What are the minimum hardware/software requirements to complete the telephonic practices and access the online training components?In order to complete the required telephonic practice sessions you will need access to a reliable phone line that can dial long distance phone numbers. 9. Is there homework?Evening homework is assigned during the in-person training modules. These assignments are designed to enhance the in-person instruction and include readings in your course manual as well as reflective writing exercises. You can expect to spend approximately 1 hour per evening on the homework assignments. Between the in-person training modules you will complete several course requirements including self-paced Web-Based Trainings, viewing Video Demonstrations, and telephonic skills practice sessions. You can expect to spend approximately 3 hours per week on these between module requirements. 10. Is there an examination?Yes, there is a written examination. In order to complete the course and receive a certificate of completion and earn continuing education credits you must pass the examination with 80% of the answers correct. You may take the examination as many times as needed during the examination period in order to pass.

Duke University Health System Clinical Education & Professional Development has been approved as an Authorized Provider by the International Association for Continuing Education &Training (IACET), 7918 Jones Branch Road, Suite 300, McLean, VA 22102. In obtaining this approval, Duke University Health System Clinical Education & Professional Development has demonstrated that it complies with the ANSI/IACET 1-2013 Standard, which are widely recognized as standards of good practice internationally. As a result of Authorized Provider status, Duke University Health System Clinical Education & Professional Development is authorized to offer IACET CEU’s for its programs that qualify under the ANSI/IACET 1-2013 Standard.
12. What kind of official documentation will I receive at the completion of the training?After completing the course you will receive several downloadable electronic certificates including IACET continuing education credits, ICF Continuing Coach Education credits, and a Duke Health & Well-Being Certificate of Completion.
13. What is the cost of the course?The course registration fee is $5497.00 Those that register by the noted early registration deadline qualify for a 10% discount. Duke Affiliates qualify for a 15% discount at the time of their registration. This discount is not eligible to be combined with the early registration discount. Duke Affiliates are defined as Duke Employees, Duke Registered Volunteers, and Duke Students. 14. What is the course refund policy?For programs with a designated start date, transfers are not allowed. Cancellations may be requested using the cancellation request form. If you make this request at least 7 days prior to the start of the program you will receive a refund of your payment minus an administration fee equal to 10% of the registration fee. If you request a cancellation within 7 days of the program start date or do not arrive on your scheduled start date you will forfeit your payment.
15. What does the registration fee cover?The registration fee covers printed course materials, access to the online course content, and two instructor-led in-person training modules, as well as the cost of continuing education credits. Beverage service and lunch are included during the in-person training modules.
